WGC partners with Working the Scene in Colour

Alex

The WGC is excited to announce a new partnership with Working the Scene in Colour (WTSC)! Co-founded in 2016 by TV writer Jessica Meya and writer/director Louis Taylor, WTSC brings talented BIPOC writers and actors together to perform original scenes from completed scripts and works-in-progress. To date, WTSC has produced over 100 scenes from more than 70 writers, and many participants have gone on to write for and act in some of Canada’s most successful TV, film and theatre productions.

As part of our partnership, WTSC is holding one spot for a BIPOC Guild member at an upcoming live performance on Thursday, May 25 at 7 pm (EST) on Zoom. Writers of colour that participated in the Script of the Month (SOTM) program were invited to submit a scene. Members of the IDEA committee selected Alex Alvarez Cadilla’s submission from his script Shooting the Talent.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Alejandro Álvarez Cadilla studied script writing with Oscar-nominee Pedro Loeb. His credits include the short films Le Trac, personally selected by Edward James Olmos for the Los Angeles International Latino Film Festival, Deep Sleep, Best International Short Film at the London Independent Film Festival and 33 official festival selections all over the world, the feature documentary Disportrait, a co-production with ZDF/Arte and the Tribeca Film Institute, winner of the Golden Prague Grand Prix TV Award and nominated for a Robert Award in Denmark, and the CBC Gem mockumentary Off Kilter, nominated for Best Comedy at the HBO sponsored Stareable Festival. Alejandro is currently working on his first feature script, Undertow, and several half-hour comedies, including Shooting the Talent.

Details for the upcoming Working the Scene in Colour live reading that will include Alex’s script will be announced in the coming days.
