May's Script of the Month Announced

May’s Script of the Month, chosen by the Diversity Committee, is The Pros and Cons of Killing Yourself, a short film written by Ravi Steve Khajuria, about a paediatric oncologist and her terminal teenage patient who attempt to fit a lifetime of experiences into a single night..

Ravi is a writer and director based in Toronto. This year, Ravi wrote for the animated preschool series 16 Hudson, currently airing on Amazon and TVO, as well as for Big Bad Boo Studios’ new animated series Judge Jodhi. His latest film Consent Agreement, which he wrote and directed, premiered at the Silver Wave Film Festival (2020) and received a nomination for Best Short Film at Hamilton Film Festival (2020).

“Ravi is not an up-and-coming writer. He’s almost there,” says veteran WGC member, Leila Basen, who worked with Ravi to polish the screenplay. “All you have to do is read the darkly comedic script to his short film and you’ll think, this dude has talent and he knows his craft. He understands character and structure and he writes the kind of dialogue that makes you laugh when circumstances suggest you should be crying. On a personal level, Ravi has the work ethic and openness that I really appreciate in a writer/creator.”

“Despite its seemingly dark themes, The Pros and Cons of Killing Yourself is an uplifting, fun, and life-affirming story, and I’m overjoyed to see it selected for Script Of The Month! Best of all, it’s a quick read. I'm dropping hints to producers who are on the lookout for new projects or who need someone to bring a bit of heart and comedy to your writing room.”

Congratulations Ravi!
