2026 Special Awards Nominations

2026 Awards nominations closed

On Monday, April 27, 2026, the Guild will hold the 30th annual WGC Screenwriting Awards honouring excellence in screenwriting. Nominations for all awards, including the Special Awards listed below, are closed.

  • The 20th annual WGC Showrunner Award: This prestigious award honours a recognized showrunner who has demonstrated great writing skills, leadership abilities, generosity, integrity, and more. Past recipients include: Matt Schiller (2025), Mark Haroun (2024), Susin Nielsen (2023), Anthony Q. Farrell (2022), Morwyn Brebner (2021), and Dennis Heaton (2020).

  • Alex Barris Mentorship Award: This award acknowledges one person who has made an outstanding commitment to help a writer — or several writers — get ahead in the business. While the nominator must be a WGC member, the recipient need not be. It could be a teacher or producer or a story editor who stepped out of the traditional job description and did something extraordinary to help kickstart someone else's career.

The deadline to submit your nominations was Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 5 pm ET. Please contact Naomi van Voorst at [email protected] if you have any questions about the Special Awards.
