The WGC makes regular visits to writers’ rooms to talk to our members and find out firsthand the concerns of Canadian screenwriters. From The Next Step to Workin’ Moms to Travelers to Frankie Drake to numerous other Canadian series, the Guild always appreciates our members' welcome to Guild staff.
Also on the writers’ room front: the WGC is pleased to facilitate meetings between screenwriters and interested elected officials, including one that took place between Liberal MP Julie Dabrusin and the Kim’s Convenience room. Ms. Dabrusin is one of a number of MPs to take an active interest in the work of Canadian screenwriters through meeting with WGC members, and she sponsored a House of Commons e-petition to the Minister of Canadian Heritage asking for a flawed CRTC decision on broadcasting licence renewals be sent back to the CRTC. Ultimately, that decision was revised, in no small part due to the hard work of Canadian screenwriters and their supporters.
