Jim Burt Prize Now Open For Entries

wgc

The Jim Burt Screenwriting Prize, presented biennially at the WGC Screenwriting Awards, was created to continue the work of the late Jim Burt in recognizing and nurturing longform talent.

The WGC is now accepting unproduced, longform, feature-length original script entries. The deadline to enter is Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

In a 20-year career at the CBC, Jim’s championing of Canadian writers and their stories resulted in the production of some 75 longform dramas including Big Bear, The Boys of St. Vincent, Little Criminals and Million Dollar Babies.

The winning screenplay is determined by a jury and will be announced at the WGC Screenwriting Awards on April 24, 2023. The total prize is worth $5,000 - a $3,000 cash prize, and $2,000 for an experienced story editor (approved by the jury) to further develop the winner’s script.

The eligibility requirements and the entry form are available here.
