b'SPECIAL AWARDSDENIS MCGRATH AWARD Presented to Michael AmoThe Denis McGrath Award for Service to the WGC is presented to a writer who has demonstrated a record of exceptional service to the Guild and whose efforts have strengthened the Canadian screenwriting community. This award was created to honour the tremendous contribution that Denis McGrath made to the Guild in his many years on the council, and for his passionate advocacy on behalf of Canadian screenwriters and Canadian stories. This years recipient is Michael Amo. A member of the Guild since 1996, Michael has served on the WGC Council for 12 years representing the Atlantic region. Hes been a diligent and hard-working voice for his region and for Canadian screenwriters in general. Michael champions the representation of Canadian creators on Canadian screens, as well as integrity and fairness in the workplace, and his presenter describes him as having a strong sense of responsibility to help maintain a sustainable creative environment for those who come after him.As a writer, Michael is exceptionally talented. He created The Listener, which ran for five seasons, and also created the drama series Pure, which was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award in the Best Dramatic Series category in 2018, and for which his episode Ordination was a WGC Screenwriting Award finalist. He has been Gemini-nominated for the TV movies Tagged: The Jonathan Wamback Story and Blessed Stranger: After Flight 111. Michael, through his work with and for the WGC, follows in the footsteps of Denis McGrath, continuing his legacy of service, for which we and our members are very grateful.'
