Register Your Work

Thank you for choosing the Writers Guild of Canada intellectual property registration service.  Please be aware that if you are not a member of the WGC, you should always access your registration account here and not try to login as a member.

The WGC reserves the right in its sole discretion to make changes to, modify, delete or add to its business practices for its intellectual property registration service at any time by posting this information on its website, which constitutes notice to you.  Your continued use of the registration after any such amendment constitutes your acceptance of these business practices.

IMPORTANT UPDATE - WGC NOT ACCEPTING NEW OR RENEWAL IP REGISTRATIONS AS OF OCTOBER 1, 2018

The WGC has decided not to continue to accept new intellectual property registrations or renewals of existing registrations effective today, Oct. 1, 2018.  Costs required to build a new registration application for the new WGC website, launching in the next few months, have proved prohibitive.

What this means is that new digital registrations or renewals will no longer be accepted. (The acceptance of new or renewals of paper registrations was discontinued in June, 2014.)

The service will continue for any registrations which are active and have not expired. We will continue to store these registrations securely, answer questions and provide information regarding these registrations. As well, registrants who provide the appropriate documentation may continue to withdraw these registrations. At the present time, access to online registration accounts continues.

The Guild will give you more information about our service regarding expired registrations soon.

Paper Registrations Not Accepted

Please be advised that effective June 24th, 2014 the WGC discontinued intellectual property registration of paper copies of materials, and is phasing out storage of paper registration materials. This notice relates to paper registrations only and does not affect any electronic registrations. We will continue to honor and store existing paper registrations of scripts and other materials at our secure offsite storage facility until after they expire at our discretion.

Anyone who has one or more valid (not expired) paper registrations may choose to either provide payment to withdraw the material and have a copy mailed to them, or create an account and register the material electronically on our online registration service.  Please contact Terry Mark at t.mark@wgc.ca if you have any questions regarding this service change.
