New Minister of Heritage

July 20, 2018

This week the federal government had a cabinet shuffle, and Pablo Rodriguez was named the new Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, replacing Mélanie Joly. Minister Rodriguez most recently served as Chief Government Whip, and before that was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities and served as the Liberal Heritage critic from 2009 to 2011. The WGC welcomes Minister Rodriguez to his new role and looks forward to working with him on the important cultural policy matters ahead.

The WGC also thanks Minister Joly for her hard work as Heritage minister over the past three years. Minister Joly actively sought input from Canada’s creative community and under her leadership Canadian screenwriters concerns were given genuine consideration. The WGC appreciates both her specific interest in our sector and her  dedication to Canadian culture. Minister Joly's new portfolio is as Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie, and we wish her the very best in that role.
