Why Join the WGC?
Because Now's a Good Time
The Guild is offering a limited-time incentive to digital screenwriters. Under this incentive, any Canadian resident screenwriter with at least two digital contracts signed within the past two years with any Canadian producer is qualified for membership in the Writers Guild of Canada, and the WGC will waive the initiation fee. The WGC will also waive the initiation fee for any writer with one digital contract signed within the previous two years under any WGC collective agreement. Contact the Guild's Member Services department for more information or clarification.
Because WGC Contracts Come with Benefits
The WGC offers its members Insurance and Retirement, advocacy on your behalf with producers, the government, and agencies such as Canadian Media Fund, and importantly, promotion for your work. The WGC Screenwriting Awards, Canadian Screenwriter magazine, various festivals and events (NxNEi, FanExpo, conferences and conventions, etc.) and our social marketing platforms are all opportunities for the WGC covered Digital Projects to be given a spotlight.
Joining the WGC also means that your name and project are listed in our online Memberís Directory Ė a place where producers search for talent to bring on board for projects, either traditional broadcast or digital.

It is important to know that once you have joined you are obligated to work only with Signatory Producers going forward. However, becoming a signatory producer is easy and, if you are your own producer, then itís simply a matter of signing the adherence letter. There are no fees to become a Signatory Producer, and rates for hiring screenwriters are fully negotiable.
