The Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) and Bell Media are proud to present a program that connects writers from diverse backgrounds with the Canadian television industry — and industry professionals with rising talent.
Since 2010, the Bell Media Diverse Screenwriters program has offered nearly 70 emerging and mid-career writers the opportunity to sharpen their skills and gain the key contacts and knowledge required to break into the Canadian television industry. It has also awarded nine participants with paid internships in the writers’ rooms of Bell Media television series including 19-2, Bitten, Degrassi, The Listener, and Motive, as well as the CBC’s Mr. D.
The 2015-2016 session is the program’s final year and is accepting up to eight participants. The program begins with a one-week boot camp featuring some of Canada's leading showrunners, screenwriters, broadcast executives, producers, and literary agents. A 12-week mentorship follows, in which each writer is teamed with an experienced WGC story editor to develop a portfolio of script materials.
In the end, all participants will emerge with the means to get their foot in their door: a polished calling card to the industry, an enhanced professional network, and insights on building a television writing career in Canada. One participant will be awarded the Bell Media writers’ room internship.
This program is offered free-of-charge to participants and is made possible through the CTV-CHUM tangible benefits.
